Physical Therapy

Customized Rehabilitation Programs

Physical Therapy and Certified Hand Therapy

Regaining physical function can be one of the most challenging aspects of your recovery from illness, injury or surgery. In physical therapy, patients work closely with trained rehabilitation professionals who educate them on simple exercises designed to stimulate healing. It can be both alarming and frustrating when you realize your condition has made it harder to perform daily activities, but by working with a therapist you can set realistic goals for your treatment that can help you regain your independence.

What Does Physical Therapy Involve?

There is no “one size fits all” solution when it comes to therapy. Two people with the same injury can have very different experiences. Your recovery process may be longer or shorter than that of someone else with a similar condition, but that is no reason to get discouraged. It is important that your physical therapist takes the time to give you individualized attention so that they can understand what treatments your mind and body will be most responsive to.

Your therapist may ask you questions about your regular day-to-day routine to get a better idea on what aspects of your treatment will be most immediately beneficial.

Salinas Valley Health Clinics Physical Therapy

Salinas Valley Health Clinics Physical Therapy is located at Salinas Valley Health Clinics Orthopedics, Podiatry & Spine and Sports Medicine facility at 611 Abbott Street, Suite 100. Our therapists specialize in treating patients before and after surgery, if surgery is needed.

We work closely with our Orthopedic Surgeons to make sure you regain your functional ability as soon as possible. Salinas Valley Health Clinics's therapists are able to walk next door and interact with your Orthopedic Surgeon “face to face” in order to maximize your recovery.

Our Certified Hand Therapist is specialized in treating upper extremity injuries. Static or dynamic splinting might be utilized by our Hand Therapist to help restore function to your injured hand or elbow.

The therapies we offer include:

  • Aquatic therapy – This is a low-resistance training program that allows participants to build strength without putting too much strain on their body.
  • Athletic taping – We provide instruction on how to properly apply athletic tape to keep bones and muscles in stable positions during a workout or activity.
  • Biofeedback – Through biofeedback, we can help patients focus their mind on areas of their body to gain more control over conditions like migraines, pains and other issues that can be stress-related.
  • Gait analysis – This is an evaluation of how a patient walks or runs to determine if anything in their gait could be responsible for a recurring injury.
  • Kinesio taping – This is a rehabilitative taping technique that stimulates the body’s recovery from injury by holding muscles and joints in stable positions.
  • Manual therapy There are several hands-on techniques that can realign the skeletal system and surrounding soft tissue.
  • McConnell Taping – This is another form of rehabilitative taping that is designed to reduce painful symptoms.
  • Mulligan techniques – These physical therapy techniques involve exercises to help patients improve their range of motion.
  • Muscle energy – A therapy that involves the flexing and stretching of muscles to help improve joint movement and decrease pain.
  • Positional release – In these exercises, patients move to comfortable positions to interrupt pain signals and alleviate chronic joint pain.
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction treatment – With this treatment for a condition of the lower spine that causes pain in the legs, we help patients alleviate pain and regain their mobility.
  • Sports rehabilitation – We provide injured athletes with a safe workout routine to help them keep up their strength and heal their injury.
  • Static and dynamic splinting Splints are typically utilized by our Certified Hand Therapist. Braces and thermoplasty are used to position and protect joints and soft tissue.
